Description

Makruk: Thai Chess is a unique variant of chess, incredibly popular in Thailand. Originating from the ancient Indian game, Chaturanga, Makruk shares similarities with classical chess but introduces new piece movements and starting positions. Pawns begin on the third rank from each player, while the King and Queen positions are switched, creating a refreshing challenge for chess enthusiasts.

How to play

Your goal is to checkmate your opponent's king. Each piece moves differently: The King moves one square in any direction; The Queen can only move one square diagonally; The Rook can traverse any number of squares horizontally or vertically; Elephants can move one square in any direction diagonally or forward vertically; Knights move like they do in classical chess. There's no castling and pawns can only promote to a queen-like piece on reaching the sixth rank.

Tips and Tricks

Analyze your opponent's moves carefully before committing to yours. Remember that Pat (stalemate) results in a draw. Constantly evaluate possibilities for checkmate, as the piece movements differ greatly from traditional chess.
